Decatur Blaze Announce Major Organizational Shift, Joining Tier 1 Hockey Federation USPHL 18U AAA Division team
Decatur, IL – April 18, 2025 – The Decatur Blaze are proud to announce a significant organizational evolution as the team joins the newly formed Tier 1 Hockey Federation USPHL 18U AAA Division. As part of this transition, the Blaze will cease operations of their USPHL Premier and Elite teams.
The rights to these teams have been sold to Pete Olson, and will be relocated to the Chicago area under new branding. While the Premier and Elite programs move north, the Blaze name and legacy will remain firmly rooted in Decatur.
“This is an exciting time for Junior Hockey in Illinois,” said Pete Olson, Governor of the New Chicago Club-name TBA. “Zac Pearson has been a tremendous partner to the USPHL Midwest Division and will continue to be for years to come with the Blaze’s presence in the Tier 1 Hockey Federation’s USPHL 18U AAA Division. We’re thrilled to bring a new hockey experience to the Midwest and expand opportunities for players seeking a post-high school hockey career.”
This shift marks a bold new direction for the Blaze, “This change will allow us to focus fully on player development and provide a path for athletes pursuing the next level in their hockey careers,” said Blaze owner Zac Pearson. “It’s an exciting time for the organization, and we’re eager to embrace this next chapter.”
Despite the structural changes, local fans will see minimal differences—aside from a younger age bracket for players. Home games will continue to be played in Decatur, where the team looks forward to welcoming fans with the same high energy and dedication that has long defined Blaze hockey.
“We’re counting on our loyal supporters to continue showing up and making noise,” Pearson added. “This is still your team, and we’re proud to keep the Blaze spirit burning bright in Decatur.”
